The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) issued alerts on Sunday for rising water levels in communes of Ñuble and Biobío due to the frontal system.
Senapred declared a yellow alert for the communes of Pinto, Coihueco, Chillán and Chillán Viejo in the Ñuble Region after the flow of the Chillán River increased. The Río Chillán en Esperanza 2 hydrometric station reached the yellow threshold, according to data from the General Water Directorate.
In the Biobío Region, Senapred raised the alert to red for the commune of Arauco due to the overflow of the Pichilo River. This measure replaced a previous yellow alert and allowed all available resources to be mobilized. The agency sent a preventive SAE message.
The Meteorological Directorate of Chile updated a warning for the probable development of clouds with tornadic characteristics in the regions of Ñuble, Biobío, La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos during the afternoon and night of Sunday.
