Serena Williams has not yet confirmed her return to competition after a knee injury at Wimbledon. Tournament officials in Montreal say discussions with her team remain ongoing.
Valérie Tétreault, director of the Montreal tournament, said the event is keeping all options open. “We are still in discussions with her team,” she told L'Équipe. “We are following the recovery from her injury on a daily basis. For the moment, no decision has been taken.”
Williams suffered the injury during her opening-round loss to Maya Joint at Wimbledon and later withdrew from doubles. She has not played since that match. Her coach, Rennae Stubbs, noted that Williams wants to compete before the US Open but that any decision rests with the player.
The Canadian Open in Montreal, where Williams won titles in 2001, 2011 and 2013, is viewed as the most likely venue for a comeback. No official return date has been announced.
