On the night of June 18, a portable radar speed camera set up by Saitama Prefectural Police on National Route 125 in Kazo City was stolen.
The incident occurred between 10:50 p.m. and 11:24 p.m. Two officers had set up the device on a tripod and were monitoring it from about 100 meters away.
The camera measured roughly 50 by 50 by 20 centimeters and weighed about 20 kilograms. Valued at nine million yen, it contained photos of 10 speeders' license plates.
Saitama Police have launched a full investigation into what is the first Orbis theft in Japan. There are no signs of personal information being leaked.
