Super Mario-themed bullet train begins operation in Kyushu

A shinkansen train operated by Kyushu Railway Co. (JR Kyushu) featuring Nintendo's Super Mario characters began service on February 10, with a departure ceremony at JR Nagasaki Station. The red-bodied Kamome train, adorned with images of Mario running and jumping, drew a large crowd of fans to the platform. The station manager, joined by Mario's brother Luigi, signaled the train's departure as it slowly pulled away.

The departure ceremony at JR Nagasaki Station featured the station manager alongside a person dressed as Luigi, Mario's brother, who together signaled the train's start. This shinkansen, known as the Kamome and operated by JR Kyushu, sports a full-body wrap with Super Mario characters, including vivid depictions of Mario in action. During the event, the station manager shared, “I played the Nintendo Entertainment System when I was an elementary school student. I hope many people will enjoy this Mario-wrapped train, beloved across generations and borders.”

The initiative highlights a collaboration between Nintendo's iconic game series and rail travel, appealing to families and tourists alike. The Kyushu Shinkansen connects Nagasaki to Hakata, and this themed train aims to boost regional appeal. Fans flocked to the platform, creating a lively atmosphere for the occasion. With service now underway, passengers can immerse themselves in the Super Mario universe while journeying through Kyushu.
