The UAAP said on June 14 it will review investigation findings into the June 8 drowning deaths of Ateneo basketball players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili before deciding on sanctions.
The league stated it is following developments and will refer information to member schools for review once probes conclude. It committed to enforcing sanctions for any breaches of protocols or laws through due process.
The UAAP also plans to review its rules to strengthen accountability and student-athlete welfare. This includes expanding access to mental health resources and safety measures.
Multiple agencies including the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police are investigating the incident that occurred during a team building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora. The UAAP noted its history of punishing member schools for violations in past seasons.
