Belgium qualified for the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup after a dramatic comeback against Senegal. Trailing 2-0, the Red Devils equalized and won 3-2 thanks to a brace from Youri Tielemans.
The match took place at Lumen Field in Seattle. Senegal opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Habib Diarra, then Ismaïla Sarr doubled the lead. Belgium pulled one back to 2-1 via Romelu Lukaku before equalizing at 2-2 through Youri Tielemans on a cross from Leandro Trossard.
In extra time, Tielemans converted a penalty to give his side a 3-2 lead. Rudi Garcia’s team held on for the win and advanced to the round of 16.
The winner of the United States versus Bosnia and Herzegovina match, scheduled later that night, will face Belgium next Tuesday.
