AGC Studios has come on board to finance and co-produce the psychological thriller 'Sweat,' starring Ana de Armas and directed by J Blakeson. Production is set to begin on March 30 in Los Angeles and the United Kingdom.
Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios has joined the production of 'Sweat,' a psychological thriller starring Ana de Armas in the role of Emma Kent, an ambitious fitness influencer aspiring to match the success of her idol, social media superstar Kat Highbrook. The story, adapted from a Polish film written and directed by Magnus von Horn—which was selected for the official competition at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival and produced by Lava Films—centers on Emma's world collapsing after an encounter with Kat goes horribly wrong. This forces her into a dangerous arrangement with Trent, an obsessive fan whose unhinged devotion tests how far she will go for fame.
Directed by J Blakeson, known for 'I Care a Lot'—which earned Rosamund Pike a Golden Globe—and 'The Disappearance of Alice Creed,' the film will be produced by Guy Stodel through Rosto Inc., Blakeson via Crimple Beck, and AGC’s Ford. De Armas, who received Academy Award, SAG, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in 'Blonde,' first gained global recognition in 'Knives Out' and has starred in projects like 'No Time to Die,' 'Blade Runner 2049,' 'The Gray Man,' 'Ghosted,' and 'Ballerina.' Blakeson recently served as showrunner and director for the Hulu/Disney+ series 'Culprits.'
Production on 'Sweat' starts March 30 in Los Angeles and the U.K., with additional casting underway. AGC International will handle international distribution, while WME Independent, CAA Media Finance, and AGC co-represent U.S. rights.
