Gustaf Skarsgård makes his feature directorial debut with the psychological horror film ”Kannibalen på Fårö”. The film is produced by Anagram and was presented at Film i Väst’s press meeting in Cannes.
The Lund-based company Anagram is producing the film, which will be partly shot in Ingmar Bergman’s house on Fårö. Filming begins in October and the Bergman Foundation has approved the project.
Gustaf Skarsgård describes the film as a disrespectful tribute to Bergman. ”It is a playful mix of genres”, he says. The screenplay is written by Peter Birro and the lead role is played by Ardalan Esmaili while Claes Ljungmark portrays Bergman.
The film will also be shot in Västra Götaland during the autumn. It will have its Swedish cinema premiere in 2027. Skarsgård calls it a meta-horror film that explores the price of art.
