New Interior and Segegob biminister Claudio Alvarado defended the May 19 cabinet adjustment driven by President José Antonio Kast. He highlighted the need to strengthen the security agenda and improve government coordination.
Alvarado said in an interview with Canal 13 that decisions in an emergency government must be swift to correct course. He explained that the president sought to inject more energy into security and achieve better political and communicational integration.
The biminister acknowledged that the security plan has faced communication issues and that actions have been conveyed in an isolated manner. He announced that Minister Martín Arrau will present the plan details on June 2 in the Senate.
From the opposition, PC president Lautaro Carmona called the change a failure and pointed to improvisation in the departures of Mara Sedini and Trinidad Steinert. FA president Constanza Martínez spoke of a lack of plan on security, while PS leader Paulina Vodanovic criticized the initial absence of clear policies.
