Ben Shelton advanced to the final of the BOSS Open after defeating Sho Shimabukuro in the quarterfinals. His girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, traveled 24 hours from Brazil to support him in Germany.
Shelton came from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on June 14. The match had been suspended the previous evening due to darkness with Shimabukuro leading.
Rodman had been with the USWNT in Sao Paulo days earlier. She flew across the Atlantic within 48 hours to reach the player box in Stuttgart.
Shelton said after the match: “Yeah, it’s really cool having her here. Obviously, she was playing for the US team against Brazil in Brazil a couple of nights ago. So she flew here, a 24-hour trip. So yeah, I really, really appreciate her coming.”
The American, who holds a 20-10 record this season, will face Taylor Fritz in the final. He is the top seed following Alexander Zverev’s withdrawal.
