Bethesda focuses most of team on Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard has revealed that the majority of the studio is now working on The Elder Scrolls 6. Development is progressing well, though it overlaps with other projects amid long pre-production phases. The sequel, teased in 2018, remains years away despite fan anticipation.

Development Progress

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Todd Howard provided a rare update on The Elder Scrolls 6, stating, "It's progressing really well. The majority of the studio's on [Elder Scrolls 6]. But I'll say this: We always overlap. So, we're very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it's a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster--or a lot faster--but it's a process that we want to get right."

This indicates a significant shift in resources toward the highly anticipated RPG, likely accelerating after the 2023 release of Starfield. However, Bethesda's approach involves concurrent work on multiple titles, ensuring thorough preparation without rushing quality.

Announcement and Timeline

The Elder Scrolls 6 was first teased at E3 2018, marking over seven years since the reveal by December 2025. Fans have eagerly awaited more details, with some even interpreting hints in unrelated trailers like the Skyrim port for Nintendo Switch 2. Just last month, Howard noted the game is "still a long way off" and expressed regret over the early announcement, highlighting the challenges of long development cycles.

Earlier in 2025, Bethesda collaborated with Make-A-Wish for a charity auction allowing a fan-designed creature to appear in the game, showing community engagement despite the silence on broader updates.

Potential Expansions

Howard also discussed possibilities beyond gaming, including an Elder Scrolls TV series similar to the successful Fallout adaptation on Prime Video. He emphasized caution, saying he's "willing to say 'no' for a decade" to avoid compromising the franchise's integrity.

This update reassures fans of active development while tempering expectations for a near-term release, underscoring Bethesda's commitment to delivering a polished experience.
