Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains under contract with the San Francisco 49ers but has not started the process to rejoin the team as training camp begins this weekend.
The 49ers placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list last December after he went absent without leave. This action froze his contract and barred him from playing or receiving pay for the rest of the season.
Aiyuk has not applied for reinstatement and has stated he will never return to the team's facility. He also vowed through 49ers Web Zone that he will not reinstate with the 49ers or conduct any business with them.
The team voided $27 million in guarantees from his 2026 salary last July as part of the four-year, $120 million extension signed in August 2024. Aiyuk faces daily fines of $50,000 for missed camp days and has not begun reinstatement.
Aiyuk recently purchased a $10 million home in Northern Virginia and has expressed interest in joining the Washington Commanders. His social media activity and approach have drawn criticism for potentially limiting future options.
