Pirates left fielder Bryan Reynolds leaped above the fence to rob Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani of a home run on Wednesday night at PNC Park. The play kept the game tied at zero in the third inning.
Ohtani, batting left-handed against Pirates starter Jared Jones, drove a fastball to the left-field wall on the seventh pitch of the at-bat. The ball traveled at a Statcast-projected speed of 101.7 mph before Reynolds made the catch well above the fence, denying Ohtani what would have been his 12th home run of the season. Reynolds received a standing ovation from the crowd as he returned to the dugout. Ohtani ran back to the visitors' dugout, retrieved his glove and took the mound for the bottom of the third. Later in the inning Ohtani threw a sweeper that struck Reynolds on the left foot.
