Capcom marks Resident Evil 30th anniversary with fan thanks and Requiem sales milestone

As part of ongoing coverage of Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom celebrated the horror series' 30th anniversary with a message from executive producer Jun Takeuchi. He thanked fans for three decades of support, celebrated Requiem's 6 million players, teased future content, and shared director insights on the ending.

On March 22, 2026—marking exactly 30 years since the original Resident Evil launched in 1996—series executive producer Jun Takeuchi shared a worldwide message to fans. Following the critical acclaim for Resident Evil Requiem (as covered in prior series articles), which returned to Raccoon City and blended horror-action gameplay, Takeuchi expressed deep gratitude: “all the fans who have supported us along the way since the release of our first game on 22nd March, 1996 - exactly thirty years ago today.” He highlighted Requiem's success, noting it has reached over six million players globally: “With the return to Raccoon City, the place where it all began, we combined the two hearts of the series - horror and action - and packed them both into one title. And now, Requiem has reached over six million players around the world. Thank you all so much.”

Looking ahead, Takeuchi promised: “Our team will continue to work hard to bring all of you even more wonderful experiences in the future - and it would be an honour if you continued along with us on that journey. Thank you again for your support.” Earlier this month, Capcom also announced a new story expansion in development for Requiem. Separately, Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi addressed fan speculation about Leon's wedding ring in the finale: “The answer will become clear some day, but not just yet. What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a 'place to go home to', and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there.”
