Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch believes the addition of Rico Dowdle will motivate Jaylen Warren this season.
Batch made the comments on The Snap Count podcast. He said Warren knows the situation from his own experience three or four years ago and will enter training camp with added drive.
"If you’re Jaylen [Warren], you know that. You’re like, ‘Hey man, three, four years ago I was that guy,’" Batch said. "So guess what? Now you’re hungrier coming into camp because now I have somebody looking over my shoulder who could potentially do the exact same thing that I did."
The Steelers signed Dowdle to pair with Warren after Dowdle rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons. Warren has shown versatility as a runner and pass protector. Training camp will determine the workload split between the two backs.
Batch noted that the new coaching staff has prior ties to Dowdle, which could increase the competition for Warren.
