Daniel Günther calls for resignation of new Left Party leader

Schleswig-Holstein's Minister President Daniel Günther has called for the resignation of the Left Party's new co-chair Luigi Pantisano after he equated the CDU with fascist policies.

Daniel Günther criticized Pantisano's remarks as oblivious to history. Anyone who equates the CDU with fascists and the AfD disqualifies themselves from serious democratic exchange, the CDU politician told Bild newspaper.

Pantisano was elected new co-chair at the party congress in Potsdam over the weekend with just over 53 percent of the votes. He had previously claimed in an interview that there was hardly any difference between the CDU, which pursues fascist policies, and the fascists themselves.

Pantisano later described the wording as unfortunate but renewed his criticism of the CDU's inhumane policies. Other Union politicians called it a bottomless impertinence.
