GM Omar Khan had indicated at the NFL Scouting Combine that he did not expect delays like last season, yet the team remains patient despite fan frustration. New head coach Mike McCarthy has expressed desire for Rodgers' return, but NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah advocates pivoting to Kirk Cousins. On the Football America podcast, Jeremiah stated, “Where the roster is now … that points me towards Kirk Cousins as the best option there, and I think you can get a nice, little two-year window.” He added, “I would take Kirk Cousins over Aaron Rodgers,” citing the need to maximize the window with players like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward. Cousins, recently released by the Atlanta Falcons after a four-year, $180 million deal, posted 1,721 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 5-3 as a starter last season, including 373 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 15 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reports indicate the Steelers have done homework on Cousins as a Plan B, with the Las Vegas Raiders also showing interest. However, former NFL player Ryan Clark opposes the move, saying, “Do not go get another old dude that’s going to have you as an average team.” Clark favors developing sixth-round 2025 draft pick Will Howard, who missed his rookie year due to a hand injury.
