Engie leaves Acera over differences in market vision

French-owned energy firm Engie announced its withdrawal from the Chilean Association of Renewables and Storage (Acera). It stated that the association's current makeup does not align with its comprehensive utility vision for the energy transition. This marks the second major exit from the group in recent times.

Engie conveyed its decision on Thursday in a letter to Sergio del Campo, Acera's president. The company explained that its global strategy prioritizes becoming the leading utility for the energy transition, emphasizing decarbonization, renewables, storage, supply security, and market distortion corrections.

"The current composition of the association does not adequately represent our market vision nor the comprehensive outlook we promote as a utility for sector development," the firm stated in the letter.

Acera brings together more than 150 members, including developers, generators, and providers in the renewables value chain. Engie thanked executive secretary Ana Lía Rojas and the guild's team.

This departure follows Colbún's exit late last year, amid tensions in Chile's electricity sector.
