A counterfeit version of the Canadian band Angine de Poitrine is currently performing in Russia, complete with matching outfits and style. The real group’s art director confirmed the impersonators are actively tagging the official band online without disclosing they are not authentic.
Sam Murdock, who works with the genuine Angine de Poitrine, told Exclaim! that the fake act is playing shows in Moscow. “There’s a fake [version of the] band touring Russia already, with the costumes and everything,” he said. The impostors continue to tag the real band on social media without noting the difference. Murdock added that the situation reflects a broader trend of people profiting from the group’s rising popularity. He noted that around 1,500 counterfeit T-shirts are available online, and he has already removed 700 listings from sites including Tee Republic and Red Bubble. The authentic Angine de Poitrine consists of anonymous Canadian members Khn de Poitrine and Klek de Poitrine. The duo recently headlined at The Great Escape festival in Brighton on May 13 and has upcoming UK and Ireland dates scheduled for September and October.
