Critics who saw the film described it as Spielberg's strongest effort in two decades. Germain Lussier of Gizmodo called it a dense roller coaster blending chase film, love story and mystery, adding that it featured an all-time performance by Blunt. Bill Bria from SlashFilm labeled the movie riveting and the weirdest Spielberg has made, highlighting its breathtaking compositions and David Koepp's script described as X-Files-meets-The Bible. Stephen Weintraub of Collider termed it another towering home run, while Tessa Smith noted she shed a tear at the end and praised John Williams' score for elevating every scene as part mystery and part Twilight Zone. Jim Hemphill from Indiewire said it was top-tier Spielberg from the opening scene onward. The film stars Blunt as a Kansas City TV meteorologist and Josh O'Connor as an alien life believer, with supporting roles by Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. It marks Spielberg's 37th directorial effort.
