Goiás court limits Caiado security detail to four officers

A judge ruled that presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado must reduce his and his family's security detail to four state military police officers. The provisional decision came on Monday.

Judge Vinícius Caldas da Gama e Abreu of the 2nd Public Treasury Court of Goiás partially granted a request from the state public prosecutor's office. He ruled that the total number of agents cannot exceed four, though they may protect family members.

The administrative improbity lawsuit was filed against Caiado, former first lady Gracinha Caiado and Colonel Marco Aurélio Godinho. The prosecutor's office sought reimbursement to the treasury and a declaration of unconstitutionality for a decree extending the benefit.

Caiado justified the need for the detail due to actions against organized crime during his term as governor. The state of Goiás maintains that the measures comply with the law.

Noncompliance carries a daily fine of R$ 10,000, initially limited to R$ 300,000. Godinho has five days to adjust the team and submit an expense report.
