Minister Ángel Víctor Torres announced on Tuesday the inclusion of four vestiges in the Democratic Memory Law catalog, which must be removed within three to six months.
The Government has notified PP administrations, Coalición Canaria and ecclesiastical authorities of the obligation to remove the Victory monument in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the monument to the fallen Romanians in Majadahonda and the inscriptions to José Antonio Primo de Rivera on the cathedrals of Murcia and Almería.
A technical commission of experts concluded that these elements exalt the Civil War and the Franco dictatorship, lack artistic value and cannot be resignified. The deadline is three months for Majadahonda and the cathedrals, and six months for Tenerife once the Cultural Interest Asset process ends.
Torres explained that non-compliance may entail fines between 2,001 and 150,000 euros. The ministry continues to study other similar vestiges in the country.
