The heatwave persists in northeastern France with 24 departments remaining on red alert Sunday. Temperature records were broken across Europe.
Twenty-four departments will remain on red alert Sunday and 41 on orange, Météo-France said. The heatwave is receding but its health effects, including a rise in deaths, remain ahead for several days, Matignon warned.
Health Minister Stéphanie Rist said a number of deaths above normal is being observed. Authorities recorded 74 drowning deaths since June 18. Emergency activity in Paris remains exceptionally high.
