Incoming government asks DNP to abstain from new appointments

Vice president-elect José Manuel Restrepo formally requested the National Protection Unit to refrain from making new appointments until the new government takes office.

The request is based on the view that decisions on who will be responsible for protecting the president-elect must align with the security policy to be defined by the new administration.

Restrepo sent a letter to the director of the National Protection Unit, Augusto Rodríguez, with copies to the Attorney General of the Nation and the Minister of the Interior. In it he asked to certify whether there are processes for filling positions initiated under Decree 0670 of 2026.

"The decisions on who will have the responsibility of protecting the President of the Republic and his government team must respond to the security policy that the new administration will define", Restrepo stated. The request seeks to ensure the process develops with total transparency.
