Jon Rahm receives Code of Conduct warning at Open Championship

Jon Rahm was issued a Code of Conduct warning after throwing his club during the second round of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale on Friday.

Rahm missed the green on the par-3 15th hole and spiked his 6-iron onto the tee box after the errant shot. He chipped on and made bogey on the hole.

A rules official approached Rahm on the 17th tee and delivered the warning. No penalty strokes were added, though the policy allows for them after an initial warning.

Rahm said the miss was unexpected on a straightforward 6-iron shot. He birdied the next two holes and closed with a par to shoot 67, finishing four under par and four shots behind leader Lucas Herbert.

The Code of Conduct policy, introduced recently by golf’s governing bodies, follows a three-step process of warning, two-stroke penalty, and disqualification. Similar warnings were issued at the Masters and U.S. Open earlier this year.
