James Nagle was disqualified from the 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur after multiple breaches of a local rule on green-reading materials.
Nagle, a high school senior headed to the University of South Florida, shot an opening-round 76 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Pennsylvania before officials removed him from the event.
The disqualification stemmed from repeated use of green-reading maps on the putting surface, which violates Model Local Rule G-12 adopted by the USGA in 2023. A first breach carries a two-stroke penalty, while a second leads to disqualification.
Nagle said on Instagram that he was not informed the maps were banned on greens. His playing partner alerted him during the round, and he consulted a rules official who allowed him to finish before confirming the multiple violations.
The incident occurred on Monday as the tournament shifted to match play, drawing separate attention to Charlie Woods missing the final rounds after a playoff loss.
