Marina Herlop readies new album Dja Dja

Catalan composer Marina Herlop will self-release her new album Dja Dja on October 9. The record follows her 2023 release Nekkuja and features the track Jaque as its first preview.

Herlop recorded most of the album at her home. She later traveled to Bali to work with local musicians playing gamelan.

According to press materials the project draws inspiration from the hero’s journey narrative framework popularized by Joseph Campbell. The musician described the album as like a giant sudoku.

The full tracklist includes 15 songs such as Flor de los Precipicios Heladas and Thálassa. Herlop previously received attention for her classically trained yet chaotic approach to experimental music.
