The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a doubleheader sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers on the heels of a late-night trade. Pittsburgh acquired infielder Jacob Gonzalez and left-handed reliever Brandon Eisert from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for the No. 34 draft pick and pitcher Jaden Woods.
The Pirates won both games by one-run margins against the NL Central leaders. In the opener, Esmerlyn Valdez drove in six runs, including a grand slam that gave Pittsburgh a 7-6 victory.
Between games, the new additions were activated. Gonzalez entered the dugout for Game 2 while Eisert made his Pirates debut in relief.
Valdez homered again in the nightcap to help secure a 3-2 win. Manager Don Kelly highlighted Eisert's ability to attack left-handed hitters and provide bullpen flexibility.
Bryan Reynolds delivered the go-ahead single in the sixth inning of Game 2 as the bullpen finished with four scoreless frames.
