After delays the Berlin-Hamburg line is scheduled to reopen on Sunday. SPD and CDU demand more open communication from Deutsche Bahn on future projects.
The general renovation of the Berlin-Hamburg line began in August 2025. Completion was delayed by roughly one and a half months. Deutsche Bahn attributed the delay to frost early in the year.
Transport politicians criticised the planning. Björn Simon of the CDU called for reliable schedules and transparent communication. Anja Troff-Schaffarzyk of the SPD stressed that the project’s shortcomings must be named plainly.
During the works long-distance and freight trains used detours. Regional services ran only on sections of the line and more than 200 buses replaced cancelled connections.
