Bayern pushed for a comeback after the early setback but created few clear chances. Manuel Neuer made several key saves to keep the score down. Harry Kane’s stoppage-time equaliser in the 94th minute arrived too late to force extra time.
Two controversial handball incidents involving referee João Pinheiro drew strong criticism. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl and coach Vincent Kompany both highlighted a missed red card for Nuno Mendes. The defeat ends Bayern’s hopes of reaching the final and winning a treble.
The club now turns its attention to the DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart on May 23 in Berlin.
