A stage adaptation of Prince's Purple Rain will open on Broadway next year. Previews begin March 12 at the Majestic Theatre, with the official opening set for April 12.
The musical follows an initial run in Minneapolis last fall. It is based on Prince's 1984 album and film of the same name.
Saheem Ali will direct the show. Peter Duchan wrote the book, and Ebony Williams is the choreographer. Jason Michael Webb serves as composer and musical director, with Prince collaborators Morris Hayes and Bobby Z as music advisers.
"Prince was an icon and Purple Rain is iconic," Ali said in a statement. The production features music from the original album along with renditions of more than 20 other Prince tracks.
The album spent 24 weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 and has been certified more than 13 times platinum.
