Red Bull Racing plans to introduce its second major upgrade package of the 2026 Formula 1 season at the Austrian Grand Prix. Team principal Laurent Mekies said the changes aim to continue closing the performance gap to Mercedes and Ferrari.
Mekies described the Austrian upgrade as the team's next significant step after the Miami package. He noted that the team has been working hard in Milton Keynes on the new parts.
The package is expected to focus on weight reduction to help the RB22 reach the 768kg minimum weight limit. Mekies joked about the effort, saying the plan is for the car to "eat a little bit less" at the event.
Mekies stated that the Austrian changes alone will not be enough for Red Bull to challenge for victories. He estimated the team still needs to find around four tenths of a second per lap relative to the leaders.
Red Bull finished fourth and sixth in the most recent race in Barcelona, where Ferrari's upgrade contributed to a win for Lewis Hamilton.
