Renk presents first own unmanned tank with Patria

The Augsburg-based transmission specialist Renk has presented an unmanned tank jointly with the Finnish company Patria at the Paris armaments fair Eurosatory.

The tracked Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) is based on a Patria platform. Renk supplies the transmission as well as the drive-by-wire architecture, in which steering movements are transmitted by radio. The transmission combines steering, braking and drive functions in a digitally controlled drivetrain architecture.

According to the company, Renk developed and validated the transmission in less than two years to military standards. The company is one of the main suppliers of transmissions for tanks of all types and built the four thousandth transmission for the Leopard 2 in Augsburg at the beginning of June.

Renk has been listed on the stock exchange for around two years. The share has risen by around 115 percent since then and was included in the MDAX last year. In the first quarter of 2026, the company achieved a record order backlog of 6.9 billion euros.
