São Paulo state saw 86 feminicide cases in the first quarter of 2026, a 41% rise from the 61 in the same period of 2025. This marks the record since the historical series began in 2018, per Public Security Secretariat (SSP) data.
March 2026 had 30 feminicides, the highest monthly figure in the series, up 58% from March 2025. The capital recorded 17 cases in the quarter, matching the prior year, but 6 in March, also a monthly record. A prominent case was the death of soldier Gisele Alves Santana, 32, on February 18 in Brás; her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Geraldo Leite Rosa Neto, 53, was charged by the Public Prosecutor's Office and will be tried in common courts.
Intentional physical assaults (dolosa bodily injury) totaled 19,249 occurrences, up 7.4%, and domestic violence rose 14.3%, both records for the period since 2018.
The SSP states that tackling violence against women is a government priority, with 144 Women's Defense Police Stations (DDMs), 173 DDM Rooms, and over 650 additional officers. It mentions the SP Mulher Segura app, panic button, and Operation Damas de Ferro III, launched on April 30, leading to over 2,000 men arrested in the last three months for crimes against women.
