President Claudia Sheinbaum announced she will wait until the official results of Colombia's presidential elections before congratulating the winner.
During her morning conference on June 22, Sheinbaum was questioned about the elections in Colombia.
“We are going to wait for the preliminary count to finish and for it to be definitive because it could even be in August. We are going to wait to congratulate whoever obtained the victory,” the president said.
With 99.65 percent of the preliminary count, the far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella won the runoff against leftist Iván Cepeda. Colombia’s current president Gustavo Petro denounced irregularities in the vote.
Sheinbaum clarified that she will not express any position until the result is official.
