The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end Darnell Washington to a four-year contract worth $42 million. Head coach Mike McCarthy spoke positively about the player's abilities and contributions during the offseason program.
Washington, selected in the 2023 draft, earned the extension after showing progress as a receiver in 2025. He recorded his first 300 receiving yards and made plays after the catch while continuing to excel as a blocker. McCarthy praised Washington on Tuesday through the team's YouTube channel. 'He's a matchup problem. Especially in the red zone, third-down situations,' the coach said. He also noted the tight end's work ethic and ability to support under-center offense. The deal positions Washington for a larger role in his second season with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. With Jonnu Smith no longer on the roster, Washington and Pat Freiermuth are expected to receive additional targets in the passing game.
