Two students detained for throwing Molotov cocktails near Instituto Nacional

Carabineros arrested two students accused of throwing Molotov cocktail-type incendiary devices in downtown Santiago. The incident took place at the intersection of Alameda Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins and Arturo Prat, near Instituto Nacional. Alameda avenue eastward was temporarily closed due to the police procedure.

Police sources reported that the individuals handled and threw Molotov cocktails in the public way, posing a high risk to passersby and officers present. Transporte Informa announced on its X account the closure of Alameda avenue eastward from Avenida Manuel Rodríguez.

The detainees are a student from Liceo Juan Gómez Catalán in Estación Central and another from 4º medio at Instituto Nacional. Both were arrested for the crime of throwing and handling incendiary devices.

Carabineros seized hoodies, two black sweatpants, gloves, two hoods, a polo shirt, and a bottle containing a liquid reportedly an apparent accelerant with a wick, compatible with making incendiary devices.

The students underwent their second detention review during the day of March 31.
