The Chicago White Sox sit atop the American League Central with the league's No. 2 seed entering the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
General manager Chris Getz is weighing additions to build on the team's strong position. One name mentioned is Padres closer Mason Miller, who holds a 0.84 ERA with 26 saves in 42 2/3 innings.
Miller remains under team control through 2030. Acquiring him would likely require top prospects such as Caleb Bonemer, the 20-year-old shortstop with 24 home runs and a .915 OPS this season.
The White Sox also face needs at starting pitcher and catcher, as Kyle Teel is sidelined six to 12 weeks with a high left ankle sprain. Manager Will Venable expressed trust in Getz's approach while focusing on the present.
"Well, yeah, totally trust what he’s doing," Venable said. Pitcher Grant Taylor added that players should stay focused on their roles rather than trade speculation.
