Several prominent pairs have withdrawn from the women's doubles event at Wimbledon, leading to walkovers and alternates stepping in. Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani pulled out due to injury concerns, while Anna Kalinskaya and Sorana Cirstea also exited.
Wimbledon’s women’s doubles draw saw significant changes after the pairings were set. Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini withdrew, allowing Maria Kozyreva and Iryna Shymanovich to advance by walkover. Paolini cited an ongoing foot injury that had already caused earlier absences from doubles events.
Anna Kalinskaya and Sorana Cirstea also withdrew for injury and scheduling reasons. Laura Pigossi and Simona Waltert entered as alternates. Cirstea advanced to the singles third round after two straight-sets wins and will face Linda Noskova on Saturday.
Kalinskaya’s Wimbledon ended with a third-round singles loss to Belinda Bencic. Despite these exits, Serena Williams and Venus Williams remain scheduled to play their first-round doubles match against Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio on July 4.
