The Philadelphia Phillies placed right fielder Adolis García on the 60-day injured list with a torn right latissimus dorsi muscle ahead of Friday's series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.
García exited Wednesday's game in Toronto and received the placement two days later. Interim manager Don Mattingly indicated the injury could end García's season, noting the team awaits one final opinion.
To address the vacancy, the Phillies added Derek Hill, acquired from the White Sox, and recalled prospect Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A. Rincones made his MLB debut in right field Friday night.
President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski described the move as tough for García, who had signed a one-year, $10 million deal and was showing recent offensive improvement despite a .195 batting average.
