Metallica performed a cover of Tom Jones' 1968 hit 'Delilah' during a concert at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on June 28. The performance came despite a 2023 ban on the song at the venue by the Welsh Rugby Union over its references to domestic violence.
The metal band included the track in their mid-set 'Kirk and Rob Doodle' section while on the final UK dates of their M72 World Tour. The Welsh Rugby Union had banned the song from choir performances at Wales internationals three years earlier.
The union stated it condemns domestic violence of any kind and described the song as problematic and upsetting to some supporters. Tom Jones responded to the original ban in July 2023 by telling a Cardiff Castle crowd that no one could stop the singing of 'Delilah'.
Metallica's UK run continues with two shows at London Stadium scheduled for July 3 and 5.
