White Flowers announce second album with Al Doyle

Preston-born dream-pop duo White Flowers have revealed their upcoming second album, Dreams For Somebody Else, produced by LCD Soundsystem's Al Doyle. The announcement includes a new single, "Thinking Of You," which explores themes of fluid time and personal reflection. The record builds on their earlier work by incorporating dance and pop elements.

Formed by Katie Drew and Joey Cobb, White Flowers debuted with their first full-length album, Day By Day, in 2021. Their new project, Dreams For Somebody Else, draws from an archival practice the duo has maintained for the past decade, compiling musical and artistic snippets to shape their songwriting. This approach has resulted in ten tracks that expand their dream-pop foundation with dance music influences and pop sensibilities, creating what they call "sad euphoria."

The lead single, "Thinking Of You," follows their October release, "Tear." Regarding the new track, the band stated: “Whilst recording the songs for ‘Dreams For Somebody Else’, we really connected with the concept of Annie Ernaux’s book, ‘The Years’ - a ‘collective autobiography’ pieced together from mismatched fragments from her past, conjuring the effect that she’s merely an observer of her own life. This concept merges into the White Flowers world, where time, rather than being restrictive, is fluid and boundless, with our music existing as an endless conversation with versions of ourselves at different stages of our lives. ‘Thinking Of You’ embodies this theme, and the sense of hopeful optimism and eternal loss that comes with it.”

Co-produced by Al Doyle, a member of LCD Soundsystem, the album transforms these fragments into a cohesive collection. The tracklist includes: "Spinning," "Heaven," "Backseat," "Tear," "Lamp," "Heart Breaks," "Visual," "In The Sky," "Dreams For Somebody Else," and "Thinking Of You."

Dreams For Somebody Else is scheduled for release on 1 May via The state51 Conspiracy.
