U2 has released its new single “Street of Dreams,” the first preview of an upcoming studio album due later this year. The track was produced by longtime collaborator Jacknife Lee and features footage from a Mexico City video shoot disrupted by rain.
The band filmed the video near Plaza Santo Domingo during a rainstorm while in the city for the Street Child World Cup Finals Tournament. Heavy rain crashed the generator, prompting a local family to invite the group onto their apartment balcony to continue.
“Street of Dreams” marks U2’s first proper studio album of new material since 2017’s Songs of Experience. The group released two EPs earlier this year and plans to mark its 50th anniversary in September.
Drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who missed the Sphere residency due to neck surgery, appears in the video after returning for recent sessions. Bono has described the forthcoming album as aiming for a “noisy, messy, unreasonably colorful” sound for live performance.
