Carreras indsamler 3,4 millioner euro til leukæmifond

Den spanske operasanger José Carreras indsamlede mere end 3,4 millioner euro til sin leukæmifond ved en gala i Leipzig. Begivenheden havde fremtrædende kunstnere og blev sendt i tv. Carreras takkede donorerne for deres generøsitet.

Ved den 31. udgave af indsamlingsgalan i Leipzigs Media City indsamlede den 79-årige spanske operasanger José Carreras mere end 3,4 millioner euro til sin leukæmifond. Begivenheden blev sendt på MDR onsdag aften og tiltrak nationale og internationale kunstnere. Blandt optrædende var Alvaro Soler, Beatrice Egli og Chris de Burgh, som opfordrede til donationer.

Kendisser som entertaineren Stefan Mross, fitnessinfluenceren Sophia Thiel og musikeren Joey Kelly deltog også ved at modtage løfter om bidrag pr. telefon. Carreras, der blev diagnosticeret med leukæmi i 1987 og helbredt derefter, stiftede José Carreras Leukemia Foundation. Siden starten har fonden indsamlet omkring 250 millioner euro til forskning, infrastruktur og sociale projekter.

Sidste år blev der indsamlet over 3,5 millioner euro ved jubilæumsgalan. Sangen udtrykte sin taknemmelighed: «Jeg buer for vores donorer for denne generøse og bæredygtige støtte.» Fonden bruger midlerne til at fremme videnskabelig leukæmiforskning og hjælpe ramte personer.
