Debre Markos Airport inaugurated amid aviation growth

Ethiopian aviation leads in Africa with new regional airports opening. Three facilities began operations this year including one inaugurated recently.

Three new regional airports began operations this year: Negelle Borena Geda, Gore Metu and Debre Markos Nigus Teklehaymanot. The Debre Markos facility was inaugurated recently.

Ethiopian Airlines operates over 165 aircraft and has ordered 67 more. It generated 7.6 billion dollars in revenue in 2024/2025 while carrying 19 million passengers.

Construction of the major Bishoftu Abusera Airport City proceeds rapidly. The 12.5 billion dollar project is underway.
