Juan Pablo Raba, who plays Joaquin on the Paramount+ series Dutton Ranch, revealed he thought his character was being killed off during Season 1.
Raba said he was convinced his role ended in Episode 6 after reading a scene where Chet approached Joaquin with a gun.
"When I first got the episode, I had no idea what was going to happen," he told TVLine. "I started reading the script, and when I saw Chet that pulls a gun and walks towards Joaquin, I was like, 'Well, this is it. It was fun while it lasted.'"
The actor added he expected a call from producers but received none. He later learned Joaquin survived when Miguel shot Chet instead.
In the season finale, Joaquin's father orders him to kill his brother Rob-Will. Raba noted the script shows no confirmation that Joaquin carried out the act, suggesting a backup shooter may have been involved.
"I don't know how much longer Joaquin could live," Raba said. "Maybe it's 10 seasons, maybe it's one more season, you have no idea."
