Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed implementing the second phase of President Trump's peace plan for Gaza and the urgent need for an international stabilization force during meetings at the Sir Bani Yas Forum in the UAE on Saturday. He emphasized that consolidating the ceasefire is a top priority to ensure humanitarian aid flows and start reconstruction. The minister held high-level talks with UN, French, and Emirati officials on the Gaza crisis and regional stability.
At meetings on the sidelines of the Sir Bani Yas Forum in the United Arab Emirates, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty focused on consolidating the ceasefire as an essential entry point for fully implementing Trump's peace plan and transitioning to its second phase. He stressed that this transition is crucial to guarantee unimpeded humanitarian aid and initiate early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
In talks with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher, Abdelatty described reinforcing the ceasefire as a "top priority." He discussed with French President’s Middle East Advisor Claire Legendre the need for joint international efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803, calling for the swift formation of an international stabilization force in Gaza to take on its duties. He highlighted the importance of establishing a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the Gaza Strip, welcomed France's support for Palestinian rights, and praised Egypt's efforts to solidify the ceasefire.
With UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, they exchanged views on the West Bank situation, the second phase of the Trump plan, and developments in Yemen, Syria, and Libya. Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty briefed his French and Emirati counterparts on Egypt's Quartet framework initiatives for a ceasefire and comprehensive political process, reaffirming rejection of any division and support for Sudan's sovereignty and institutions.
On Lebanon, the minister informed Legendre of his recent Beirut visit outcomes, emphasizing the need to prevent escalation and reject any sovereignty violations. Bilateral discussions with France addressed desires to boost French investments in Egypt, especially in industry, transport, and tourism, and welcomed the first round of strategic dialogue between their foreign ministries.
Additionally, Abdelatty met Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to follow up on his recent Islamabad visit, discussing a roadmap to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic partnerships and the private sector.
