The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has launched a public consultation on new electricity tariffs covering 2026 to 2029. The process follows recent bill increases and widespread complaints from households and businesses.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority announced the review on May 24. Kenya Power and Lighting Company submitted the application on behalf of GDC, KenGen, KETRACO and REREC under Section 11(b) of the Energy Act.
Public forums were postponed from May 25. They are now scheduled for June in Kisumu on the 15th, Eldoret on the 16th, Nakuru on the 17th, Nyeri on the 18th, Nairobi on the 19th, Garissa on the 22nd and Mombasa on the 24th.
The authority stated that consultations will allow the public and stakeholders to submit views before a final decision. The review comes after EPRA raised charges by more than one shilling per unit for the May billing period.
