Den Europæiske Union og Mexico underskriver handelsaftale

Den Europæiske Union og Mexico har underskrevet en moderniseret handelsaftale for at styrke de økonomiske bånd og mindske afhængigheden af USA.

EU-Kommissionens formand, Ursula von der Leyen, og Mexicos præsident, Claudia Sheinbaum, beseglede aftalen ved topmødet i Mexico City. Den udvider den eksisterende aftale fra 2000 til også at omfatte tjenesteydelser, digital handel og landbrugsprodukter.

Von der Leyen udtalte, at partnerskabet bringer mange fordele til begge parter og skaber flere arbejdspladser. Mexico forventer, at eksporten til EU vil stige fra 24 til 36 milliarder amerikanske dollars inden 2030.

Aftalen kræver stadig ratificering. I EU kan Europa-Parlamentet stemme om den i juli. Det er det første topmøde i mere end ti år.
