Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has called on the FIA to employ permanent stewards and greater AI following the safety car finish at the British Grand Prix.
The race at Silverstone ended behind the safety car on lap 52 after Max Verstappen spun into the gravel at Stowe corner on lap 48. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc took victory ahead of Mercedes pair George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
The FIA confirmed that a broadcast message indicating the safety car would pit had been shown in error because insufficient laps remained to complete unlapping procedures. Steiner made his comments during an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast.
"We need to start a campaign soon," Steiner said. "Full-time stewards that work on a plan." He argued that AI could help manage the many possible race-end scenarios and that regulations should be set in advance rather than decided during an event.
Steiner praised FIA technical staff while stressing that solutions must be prepared beforehand to avoid similar controversies.
